Biography
Nastaran Safaei, sculptor and multimedia artist, was born in 1984 in Tehran, Iran. She studied graphic design at high school and college, while experimenting with different techniques in calligraphy, pottery, and clay sculpting. She had her first solo calligraphy exhibition in 2004 at Iranian Artists Forum, and her first solo sculpture exhibition in 2008 at Assar Art Gallery.
Subsequently, while participating in art history and criticism workshops, she studied the bronze technique and showcased her work in various group and solo exhibitions, art fairs, and biennales in and outside Iran. From 2013 to 2018, during a series of artist residencies, she created a collection of body prints. During the past decade, she has ventured into writing, while producing video art projects as a multimedia artist. Safaei’s work is often influenced by the physical, psychological, and cultural aspects of womanhood. In addition, she pays specific attention to self-knowledge, iconography, and mythology, while drawing inspiration from mundane objects and incorporating them in her productions.
